The police in Ogun have arrested a  20-year-old woman, Ajoke Owolabi, for allegedly abducting a 7-year-old girl, Racheal Olorunshola, for 19 months.
Owolabi allegedly abducted the little girl 19 months ago while she was returning from school.
The police said that early last month a “good Samaritan” brought Rachael back home to her parents, who had unsuccessfully searched for her everywhere, in the past 19 months.
It was gathered that luck, however, ran out on her alleged abductor on August 29, when the little girl was playing in front of her parents’ house at Igbore, Abeokuta and the suspect, who was passing by, was identified by the victim.
The young victim was said to have raised the alarm, pointing at the suspect as the person who had earlier abducted her.
The suspect was promptly arrested, but she denied ever knowing the girl.
But the victim quickly mentioned her name as Aunty Ajoke and when the suspect was searched, her identity was confirmed with the same name was written on her body.
It was at that juncture that she confessed to committing the offence.
The suspect further revealed that the little girl was taken to Oshodi, Lagos, where she was kept for 19 months.
She claimed that she had come to attend a party in Abeokuta and had kept the girl in a room from where she escaped.
Owolabi said that she passed through the area, where the girl’s parents’ house was located, unknown to her that her victim was there on that day when she was arrested.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the development, said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti Kidnapping/Cultist Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
