Sometime last year, Nigerian musician, popularly known as Oritse Femi, claimed that he was assaulted at Quilox Nightclub. There was a disagreement on the night and he was forcibly moved out of the club by bouncers.
The owner of the club, Shina Peller, in an encounter with The Point, said that the bouncers were only carrying out the job they were being paid for, and which was to provide security.
Peller explained, “At Quilox, we benchmark the biggest night life in the world. If I travel abroad and I need a table at any club, I would rather go to their website, take their number, book a table and pay for it. So, once anyone wants a table at Quilox and he or she goes through the right avenue, I do not see reasons you would be bounced. But when you have a club that has the capacity of 100 people and you’ve already had 110, how do you force 200 people into it? That is where people get it wrong.
“Even when Oritse Femi claimed that Sound Sultan was also bounced, Sultan objected to it. Sound Sultan is my cousin, he is family. I was not around that day but the CCTV captured what happened. It didn’t even happen in the VIP section of the club; it was just an open area. All the tables were taken already and Oritse Femi did not have a booking before coming. He came into the club and he was able to talk to a customer, who agreed to accommodate him. He then told him he was expecting more people; so the customer called the bouncers to interfere. I don’t like to run people down. If I love drama or get carried away by all this, I would have released the CCTV to the public. You would’ve seen that he was totally at fault. The bouncer was doing his job and talked to Oritse Femi politely. My bouncer is paid to provide security and what he did was to provide security. I am sure you didn’t see any proof that the bouncer did anything to him, but you saw proof he did something to the bouncer. But it is something that has been forgotten; it is just one of those things.”
