The police in Ogun have arrested a security guard with Proton Guard Lagos, Ojo Adebowale, for hacking into the Facebook account of a lawmaker representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Ojo Adebowale Viwanu.
The suspect was tracked down to Lagos State by detectives attached to the Ibara Divisional headquarters, where the lawmaker had earlier lodged a complaint that an unknown person had hacked into his Facebook account and had been using it to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The lawmaker revealed that some of his associates had already fallen victim to the impostor.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that it was on the strength of the lawmaker’s complaint that the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Abiodun Bakare, detailed some detectives to unravel the identity of the person behind the criminal act.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, said that their efforts paid off, when the suspect was eventually traced to Lagos, where he was arrested.
The PPRO added that the suspect had already made confessional statement to the police.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
