Tension has gripped Zamfara State over the alleged disappearance of five inmates of an orphanage under the state Ministry of Women Affairs.

There has been an outcry amongst residents of the state following an allegation that the five orphans could not be found in the home.

In an audio clip being circulated in the state, unidentified persons accused officials of the state Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of being behind the alleged disappearance of the orphans.

When contacted, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Balkisu Ibrahim, denied  knowledge of the whereabouts of the five orphans alleged to have gone missing from the orphanage home.

An orphan identified as Abdullahi Dagaji, in an interview, alleged that the five missing children were being under-fed by the authorities of the orphanage home.

According to him, provision of medical checks and treatments for the inmates of the orphanage had earlier also been suspended.

“It’s very clear that the whereabouts of some orphans cannot be ascertained yet,” he said.
