The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has cautioned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to stop whipping up sentiments in order to “curry unmerited sympathy in the court of the public” over the crisis that has bedevilled local government administration in the state.

Reacting to allegations made by the chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi that there is a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in connivance with the leadership of APC in the state to assassinate Governor Ademola Adeleke, APC denied, saying such claim was reckless and figment of the imagination of Bisi.

A statement issued by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Wednesday, asked Bisi to stop “shedding crocodile tears.”

“If the PDP chairman thinks that the sentiment he has been playing up by feigning the victim of the untoward development to the extent that quite a number of our members were killed by the PDP hoodlums on Monday, would absolve him and his cohorts of complexity in the murder case, he is joking.

“Does the embattled state PDP chairman want to tell the good people of Osun State that it was not the hired thugs of his party that killed our serving chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state, Hon Remi Abass, in a coordinated attack on Monday in Ikire?

“Sunday Bisi is only shedding crocodile tears which, would not, in anyway, jeopardise the efforts of the police to fish out the foot soldiers and sponsors of the killers of our members for proper investigation and subsequent prosecution for murder.

“We were only lucky as a party that one of our illustrious chieftains in this state who is an Executive Director in the Federal Housing Authority(FHA), Abuja, Engr Remi Omowaiye and Hon Tobi Famurewa, escaped being killed by the Adeleke thugs by the whiskers on Monday when the hoodlums sprayed the vehicle in which Omowaiye was with bullets.

“While we, as a party, are not holding brief for the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Egbetokun, with reference to the needless vituperation on him by the embattled state PDP chairman about the subsisting crises caused by Governor Adeleke for disrespecting the rule of law, but it disheartening that a supposed party chairman could descend so low to take up on the IGP for diligently performing his official responsibilities.

“The IGP cannot be rebuked for honouring and sticking to Section 287(2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended which states that: “The decisions of the Court of Appeal shall be enforced in any part of the Federation by all authorities and persons”.

“How does this statutory role of the police amount to willingness or readiness to kill the Osun State governor? Such reckless and unsubstantiated accusation against the nation’s police boss is a figment of imagination by someone whose sense of reasoning is being propelled by a hard substance.

“We want to state categorically that we take an exception to the PDP chairman’s heaping of insult on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, at any slightest opportunity.

“Such posture does not show a strength of character on the part of the rattled PDP state chairman but rather exposes his weakness as lacking in the essential necessities of upbringing early in life which has now become his stock in trade,” Olabisi said.
