Members of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State on Monday held a rally in demand for the zoning of the 2026 governorship election ticket of the party to Osun West Senatorial District of the state.
According to them, the zone has been marginalised for the past 26 years as it has not produced Osun governor.
The party faithful, under the aegis of Osun West Crusaders, demonstrated peacefully to the party secretariact in Osogbo and called on the party leadership including President Bola Tinubu, Adebisi Akande, Gboyega Oyetola, Ajibola Basiru, among others to impress it on the state executive committee to consider an aspirant from Osun West to flag the party’s flag in the gubernatorial poll.
With different sizes of banners bearing inscriptions which advocated need for zoning the ticket of the party to Osun West, the party supporters thronged the secretariat and presented a letter of request to the Osun APC Director of Admin and Finance, Aremu Tajudeen, for the party leaders.
The group, while addressing a press conference earlier, advocated that should Osun APC leader, Adegboyega Oyetola, chooses not to contest the forthcoming governorship election, “it becomes imperative for our party to deliberate upon granting the party’s ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.”
Speaking, the coordinator of the group, AbdulGafar Blessing, said, “For decades, Osun West has served as the cornerstone of steadfast allegiance to the APC. From the era of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress (AC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the APC, our people have consistently championed the progressive cause. We have contributed profoundly to the party’s triumphs and remain devoted to its success. It is, therefore, equitable and just that the leadership of our party afford due consideration to Osun West.
“Osun West is not only abundant in political dedication but also in credible and capable aspirants poised to lead our party to victory. We possess men and women of proven integrity, administrative acumen, and grassroots appeal who can be the torchbearers of the APC in the state. These individuals, drawn from diverse backgrounds, have demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the party and embody the leadership qualities requisite to reclaim Osun State from the current administration’s grasp.
“The present government under Governor Ademola Adeleke has come to epitomize executive irresponsibility, marked by a lack of vision, erratic governance, and policies that have scarcely enhanced the lives of Osun State’s inhabitants. The sole means to dislodge this government and restore Osun State to the trajectory of progress and development lies in ensuring our party presents a formidable candidate from Osun West- if, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola is not in the fray.”
