Some stakeholders of Ebonyi State have applauded a non-governmental organisation, Samuel Omogo Foundation for its annual distribution of cash and other human capital development equipment at no cost to indigents, the clergy and people from all spheres of life in the state.
Peter Omogo, a reverend father of the Catholic Church, through his Samuel Omogo Foundation has been empowering people with sewing machines, motorcycles, laptops, cars, school bags, shoes, food items, cash sums for self-reliance.
He has also paid the medical bills of indigent patients, drill boreholes for communities, boost businesses, literacy level, and economy of the state and quench the thirst of communities without potable water.
During the 2025 empowerment ceremony, Fr Omogo distributed a total of 100 sewing machines, 20 motorcycles and cash sum of N4.7 million naira to many needy at his Ikpomkpuma village, Umuogudeoshia Ngbo community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The occasion also afforded the Catholic priest the opportunity to thank God for his 20th priestly ordination anniversary.
The Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chinedu Onah, while speaking at the humanitarian programme, described Omogo as a practical preacher of the gospel of Christ by going out of his ways annually to give life-touching empowerment equipment to people at no cost regardless of clans, religion or political affiliations.
Also, the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Peter Nworie Chukwu, represented by the Vicar General Rev Fr Oluwa Chukwu, appreciated the benefactor for teaching people how to fish instead of giving them fish.
He expressed optimism that the kind gestures will reduce poverty and crime rates in the state to a great extent.
The Director General of Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation, Tony Nwizi identified Fr Omogo’s philanthropism as the best method of rapid propagation of the gospel of Christ.
“We commend Fr Omogo for the feat he has sustained by alleviating the plights of the downtrodden,” he said.
On his part, a Catholic priest of Abakaliki Diocese, Rev Fr Felix Akam said, “This is quite commendable because one thing is to have and another thing is to have the spirit of giving, identifying with the class of people Jesus calls the least of his brethren. I want to commend Fr Omogo for this kind gesture because the crowd we see here for the past ten years is huge.”
Responding, Omogo encouraged the recipients to make good use of the equipment for the upliftment of their families and anyone who comes in contact with them.
He explained that the items were part of his birthday gifts from foreign friends and associates, stressing that “a blessing is a blessing only when others benefit from it.”
