The National Assembly Service Commission has approved the appointment of Aminu Yero as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.
The commission approved Yero’s appointment during an emergency meeting of the Commission held today, Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
The commission announced on Sunday the appointment of Ibrahim Atiku as the substantive Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.
This decision followed a Monday night meeting convened by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The meeting was attended by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, their deputies, the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Ahmed Amshi, two NASC commissioners, and several permanent secretaries from the National Assembly bureaucracy.
Sources indicate that the meeting took place at the Senate President’s residence.
During the discussions, the Speaker reportedly questioned the NASC Chairman and commissioners about the process that led to the appointment of Ibrahim Atiku.
However, they were unable to provide satisfactory explanations.
It was gathered that after deliberations, the leadership resolved to appoint Bashir Yero from the Estate and Works Directorate as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.
Sanda Liman from the Procurement Directorate was reassigned to the Estate and Works Directorate.
At the same time, Atiku, who had recently been promoted to the position of permanent secretary, was directed to take up a role in the Procurement Directorate.
Following the meeting, the commission further approved the appointment of the Director of Finance and Accounts, Atiku as the Secretary of the Directorate of Procurement and Supplies.
On the other hand, Liman Sanda, former Secretary of the Directorate of Procurement & Supplies, has been redeployed as the Secretary of Estate and Works.
In their respective appointment letters signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ahmed Amshi, the commission noted that the elevations and redeployment were in recognition of their hard work and administrative competence and therefore enjoined them to continue to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
The statement read in part, “The appointments and redeployment, the Commission emphasized, would take effect from 2nd February 2025.
“It would be recalled that the Commission had recently appointed Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana as substantive Clerk to the National Assembly with effect from 2nd February 2025.”
