A former Nigerian Ambassador to Philippines, Dr Yemi Farounbi has charged Nigerian media professionals to not grow weary in the present political dispensation because Nigerians now look forward to them for rescue.

Farounbi lamented the sad turns governance has assumed in the country, stating that political leadership has collapsed.

Speaking to The Point reporter during an exclusive chat on how the President Bola Tinubu-led administration has fared since assumption of office last year, the elder statesman insisted that all political parties have stopped offering leadership to the people.

He expressed worry that even the opposition parties are not giving better alternatives, calling on the media to save the situation by speaking for the people and providing a better way forward.

“Nigeria rests on you in the media. Let me say it clearly because the political leadership has collapsed and I don’t mean APC… PDP, SDP, all political parties, have collapsed.

They have stopped offering leadership to the people, they have stopped giving voices to the voiceless, they have stopped giving hope to the hopeless, and they have not given Nigerians an alternative platform.

“You don’t like the way Tinubu is doing it but this is how it could have been done, we are not getting that. So, we now rely only on you in the media to be the spokesperson for these voiceless, helpless, hopeless people. So, keep on doing well before your colleagues,” Farounbi told The Point reporter.
