A resident of Apomu community in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, Lasisi Akinrin, has narrated the shocking story of how three elderly men sexually molested and assaulted her daughter for about a year.
Akinrin said he got to discover after her daughter fell ill and was hospitalised, adding that some neighbours later informed him that the old men had been taking advantage of the vulnerability of the 15-year-old girl and having carnal knowledge of at different times and places.
It was gathered that the victim was hawking charcoal in the neighbourhood before the incidents.
He said the three men who allegedly abused her daughter sexually are aged 60 years and above, adding that one of them is a retired secondary school principal in the state.
Akinrin said he got to discover the alleged molestation in September this year, explaining how the sexual assault incidents started last year.
The victim reportedly informed her father that her abusers promised to marry her and warned her against revealing the sexual escapades to anyone.
“In September this year, I noticed that my daughter was ill. It was during the course of treating her ailment that some neighbours informed me that three old men have been molesting her sexually.
“My daughter could not talk because the sickness was so severe. So, after she was able to recover, I asked her about the identities of the old men who were sexually abusing her and she said she was afraid and that was why she did not report what she was passing through to me or her mother.
“She told me that the assault started last year and that they kept taking advantage of her till 2024. I was very sad and I felt like committing murder immediately.
“After I persuaded her, she told me how they all lured her into their apartments separately while she was hawking and had sexual intercourse with her many times.
“She then took me to a 63-year-old man and pointed at him as one of her abusers. The man confessed to having carnal knowledge of her four times, claiming he wanted to marry her. I left him to another man who is a retired school principal. He also confessed to taking advantage of her and also claimed he wanted to marry her. The same story was told by the third man.
“I was so furious that I didn’t know what to do. After I gave it some thought, I decided to travel to Ibadan to meet Alhaji Oriyomi for intervention. I explained to him and he invited the men to his radio programme. They all confessed there also. Oriyomi called the DPO of Iyaganku Police Station in Ibadan and they were arrested. The police station said the case didn’t fall under their jurisdiction and that I should go to Osun State and report to the Police there,” Akinrin narrated.
He said he did not report at the police station because he felt the men were more influential than him and that he could not get justice.
“In Apomu, these old men know many police people there and that was why I didn’t report the case initially. Now, I have reported at the Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo and the problem now is that I don’t have the money to transport the suspects to Osogbo from Ibadan so that the police can commence investigation,” he lamented.
