Security guard disappears with employer’s vehicle two days after employment

A security guard simply identified as Usman has been arrested by the police for allegedly carting away his employer’s vehicle.

Usman was said to have been employed by a resident of Abuja, identified as Frank Udah, to guide his residence two days before allegedly committing the crime.

The suspect allegedly drove a Toyota Camry belonging to his boss away before he woke up.

Confirming his arrest, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu said the offence was committed on October 7, 2024.

He disclosed that the suspect was tracked down to Nasarawa State where he was about to sell the stolen car.

Usman had allegedly fled the scene before a police team apprehended him.

Disu said, “On October 7, 2024, one Frank Udah of Valid Dream Estate reported at one of our stations that his security guard, identified as Usman, that he employed robbed him of his car.

“He reported that his white colour Toyota vehicle was removed from where it was parked inside his residence at 05:30am by his newly employed security guard named Usman.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the security guard who has been employed for barely three days stole the said vehicle and took same to Nasarawa State to sell.

“With the aid of modern technology, he was followed to the place and he was arrested. On sighting the police, the suspect took to his heels, abandoning the vehicle that was promptly recovered. Effort is on to arrest other members of the gang who have been assisting him.”

Meanwhile, the CP has called on members of the public to be cautious in employing people as domestic aids, admonishing them to investigate their background before giving them access to their home.

“Members of the public should be wary about those they employ to serve as their drivers and house help. Take your time to interview them well. Take your time to check their records and ensure that one or two persons stand as sureties for them because you are not sure of the persons you are bringing to your house. They may be criminals waiting for you to hand over your keys of your possession for them to rob you,” the CP stated.
