There was pandemonium in Sango Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, when suspected cultists on Tuesday unleashed violence on the community, killing one person.
The violence, which occurred at the back of Sango Ota Motor Park, according to eye witnesses, began when a group of suspected hoodlums launched an attack on one another.
A source told our correspondent that the incident claimed the life of one Babatunde Raji, who was said to have been trailed to the house, where he was killed with machete.
A resident of the area, Yomi Sangosanya, told our correspondent that the suspected hoodlums were later identified as members of the Eiye cult group, who were in the community to launch attack on a former member, who had earlier recanted.
“Like every other person, I heard the incident that the victim renounced his membership, which made them to come for him,” he said.
Another source, Osas John, disclosed that the cultists, after killing their victim, amputated his wrist, which they took away.
“The whole Sango Motor Park turned to a grave yard, when these people arrived with guns and charms. They didn’t spend much time to carry out their wicked operation. It was a swift operation carried out with stealth and professional éclat.
Residents soon realised the blood suckers had killed the young man while his wrist was chopped off and taken away to an unknown destination. With this, people who knew much about such thing said it was Eiye cult group that came to spill blood,” John said.
Our correspondent learnt from a reliable source that police operatives from the nearby police station later arrived at the crime scene and evacuated the remains of the deceased to a public morgue.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying police investigation was on going to unravel the perpetrators of the violent act.
“Our command has already commenced investigation into the case with a view to unravelling the circumstances that led to the killing while at the same time hunting for the perpetrators, for them to face justice. Nobody has the right to take the life of another,” Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, said.
