The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has once again reaffirmed its commitment to the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, a groundbreaking plan to connect Nigeria with Morocco and other areas, supplying gas to various West African nations as well as possibly Europe.
The NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, said this on Friday during the ECOWAS Inter-Ministerial Meeting on the project in Abuja,
The initiative will cover 5,300 kilometers from Nigeria to Morocco, providing gas to 13 ECOWAS countries while aiding in the utilization of Nigeria’s natural gas, expanding export pathways, and decreasing gas flaring.
Started in 2016, it has progressed through various stages, including feasibility studies and collaborations with local stakeholders like Mauritania and Senegal.
NNPC’s Executive Vice President of Gas Power & New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, who represented Kyari emphasized that NNPC is using its technical expertise in gas production, processing, and infrastructure to guarantee the project’s success.
Kyari stated that the project would not just provide energy but also drive shared prosperity in Africa, adding that the choices made will affect both the economy and the lives of the region’s people.
He commended the governments of Nigeria and Morocco for their hard work and thanked Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu for his support.
Kyari stressed that NNPC, along with regional partners, is dedicated to completing the front-end engineering design and continuing environmental and social impact assessments to ensure the success of the African Atlantic gas pipeline project.
