Again, court sacks all NNPP candidates in Kano LG polls

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano and presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda, has again sacked all the 44 Local Government chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the New Nigeria Peoples Party submitted to the state independent electoral commission for the Saturday election.

Justice Amobeda gave the order following an originating summon filed on the 8th of October, 2024, by the faction of the party (NNPP) and one Engr. Muhammad Babayo through their counsel, Sunday Olowomoran directed the electoral body, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission to only recognize the list of candidates from their faction as genuine candidates.

The defendants in the case are the Independent National Electoral Commission, as 1st defendant, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, as 2nd, Inspector General of Police and Director, Department of Security Services as 3rd and 4th defendant respectively.

A copy of the court order reads: “That the 1st defendant (INEC) is hereby restrained from releasing the voters register for the 2nd Defendant to conduct the proposed election on 26th October 2024.

“That the 2nd Defendant (KANSIEC) is hereby directed to accept as genuine and subsisting, the list of NNPP candidates submitted to it by the recognized State Chairman of the party Dalhatu Shehu Usman, which is by the party constitution and rejects any list of Candidate submitted to it by anyone else for the 2024 Local Government Election in Kano State.

“That the 3rd and 4th Defendants (IGP and Director, DSS) are forthwith restrained from providing security and protection to the scene of the Election plans to take place on the 26th October 2024.”
