The police in Ogun have arrested one Segun Olaseni, 20, for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 9-year-old girl (names withheld).
The suspect’s arrest followed a complaint by one Adepoju Akinyemi, who reported at Sango Ota Divisional Police Headquarters that Olaseni came to his house at New life Estate, Ota, last Sunday while he was away at work and forcibly had sex with his 9-year-old daughter.
Upon the complaint, the DPO Sango Ota Division, SP Akinsola Ogunwale, led detectives to the house of the suspect at New life Estate, Ota, where he was promptly arrested.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime and claimed to have been very close to the family, whose house is not far from his.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, added that the suspect stated further that he met the girl alone in the living room and dragged her into her father’s bedroom, where he had sex with her.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.
The police boss, who decried the careless attitude of some parents towards their children, especially female ones, appealed to members of the public to take their wards’ welfare seriously so as not to make them easy prey for evil people.
