President Bola Tinubu, Governors of the All Progressives Congress states in the South West, serving Senators and members of House of Representatives and other ranking members of the party are to attend the APC South West Assembly scheduled to hold October 5, 2024.
The Assembly, according to the APC National Vice Chairman, South West region, Isaac Kekemeke, is initiated to appraise the state of the party in the zone and also interact with elected government officials on ways to deliver on their mandates.
Briefing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, Kekemeke disclosed that over 650 leaders and elected members of the All Progressives Congress in the zone are expected to attend.
He said, “The proposed meeting is intended to appraise the state of the party in the South West zone. We want to look at where we stand in the next election and also want to interact with elected officials on the platform of the APC and look at ways to support President Tinubu in his renewed hope agenda.
“Basically, it is a meeting of who-is-who in the leadership of the party and the government of South West. It’s a kind of a home talk.
“The truth of the matter is that there is temporary pain and hardship and all of us are feeling it. But the most important thing is to look at the decisions that have been taken by the government to ensure that the economy stabilises because Nigeria is on the verge of collapse.
“What our government has done is to ensure that it didn’t happen. Nigerians will soon be compensated for this pain. Everybody knows that these decisions have to be taken if we must survive as a nation. The pain is imminent. These are decisions that ought to have been taken some 40 years ago. There cannot be pleasure without some pain. But our government has taken this courageous decision so as to ensure Nigeria did not fall.
“This and more are the reasons we are convening the South West Assembly of the APC. It is the highest organ in the zone. Those that are attending include the president, former Vice presidents, Governors and their deputies, former Governors, Ministers, serving Senators and members of House of Representatives and Speakers of State Assemblies and principals officers and who-is-who in the South West region either in the party or high ranking government officials. It is scheduled to be held on October 5 at the Eko Hotel and Suite. The day is a day to note in the history of politics in the South West.”
The host and Chairman, All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Cornelius Ojelabi described the upcoming Assembly as an opportunity to discuss ways to better the lot of the people of the region.
He said, “It has been a very long time since such an event was held in the region. We want to seize the opportunity to discuss the future of the party in the zone, more importantly, that we have the president coming from our zone. It is an opportunity for us to come together and map out strategies to discuss what we can do to better the lot of people in the zone.”
