  • Osun residents aware of gov’s outstanding performance, APC won’t win a single LG – Commissioner

The ruling People’s Democratic Party in Osun State and the major opposition All Progressives Congress have expressed different views over the current governance in the state, while boasting of victory ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

While a chieftain of the APC, Bade Falade claimed that Governor Ademola Adeleke has nothing significant to show for his stay in office in the last two years and that he would suffer monumental defeat in the next poll, Adeleke’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi disagreed, saying the incumbent administration has positively transformed Osun and that it would be impossible for the major opposition party to win a single local government in the 2026 governorship election.

Falade, while speaking in Osogbo on Monday on a radio programme monitored by The Point, claimed that Adeleke had only succeeded in demolishing people’s houses in the name of constructing roads of which no significant achievement has been recorded.

The former local government chairman in the state maintained that APC would defeat Adeleke if he tries to run for second term because he has not achieved anything in most of the towns and villages in the state.

According to him, “They claim to be constructing roads but you can see that there is nothing tangible to show for it so far. Go to Ejigbo where I come from, go to Iwo and many other towns, nothing has been done there. They are only destroying people’s homes in Ede in the name of widening roads.

“I can assure you that Adeleke will not taste second term. He will suffer monumental defeat because he has failed.”

He accused Governor Adeleke of receiving huge allocations from the Federal Government with almost nothing to show for it, saying, “N400billion has been sent to Osun without any sign.”

Meanwhile, when contacted for reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in the state, Kolapo Alimi, dismissed Falade’s comments as normal “politicians sentiments and hallucinations.”

Alimi told The Point that with the outstanding performance of Adeleke across all sectors, it would be impossible for the APC to win a single local government area in Osun during the forthcoming governorship contest.

He said, “Falade is a politician and if you had listened to virtually all the callers, you will know that the people are not fools. They asked him about the economic situation in the country, he said the subsidy removal has been given to the governor and he was quoting outrageous figure that is not correct. So, he is indirectly saying that Tinubu has removed the subsidy and he has given the money to governors. Is that the correct situation, the answer is no. Out of all the money collected from the Federation Account, the Federal Government will take 52 per cent, while the entire states of the Federation will take 26. Osun Allocation only moved from about four billion naira to about six billion. The APC are adding their fictitious figure. They even use to talk as if all the money from the Federal Allocation is coming to Osun because of the projects they are seeing. They did not even ask of the cost of the materials now. All those things they have said is a lie.”

Insisting that APC lacks the wherewithal to dislodge Adeleke, Alimi stated, “Even the Ejigbo where he (Falade) comes from, they challenged him that he lost his ward, he only quoted the figure of his unit. He could not deny the fact that he lost his ward.”

“Even if APC are one, apart from the differences they are having, they cannot defeat PDP now. Look at the welfare programmes of Governor Adeleke. We are talking of regular payment of salary, payment of salary arrears, payment of backlog of pension arrears, promotions to civil servants, the co-operatives, loans to the people and so on.”

Enumerating the achievements of Adeleke further, he said, “Currently as I am speaking, three flyovers are ongoing, two in Osogbo and one in Ile-Ife, dualisation is going on in Ede, Osogbo and Ilesa. Then, intra roads and inter-city roads from my town in Erin-Osun, to Ede-Awo road is almost completed. Look at the issue of water, boreholes around, renovation of schools, look at the health sector, the one they rehabilitated which they used to chop almost 20million US dollars is being done properly to World Health Organisation standard. Look at Imole medical outreach. So, with what Governor Ademola Adeleke is doing, it is difficult for them to win election in Osun.”

“So, the statement made by Falade is just his political sentiment and he is hallucinating and the true picture on ground which the people of Osun know is that Adeleke is Mr Performer and he is performing. With the performance of Governor Adeleke so far, and which is going to continue by the grace of God, APC will not win a single local government in the next election,” he stressed.
