A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, representing Obokun Constituency, Adewumi Adeyemi has identified the urgent need for Nigerian youths to prioritise mentorship in order to be able to deliver better in the nation’s leadership space.
Addressing the teeming youths present at the 2024 THRIVE Leaders Fellowship Induction and Leadership Workshop organized by The True-Life Projects, Adeyemi called on African and Nigerian youths to enroll for leadership mentoring programmes for their capacity to be built ahead of the leadership functions they wish to perform.
Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Raising the Benchmark for Leadership Excellence in Africa,” the legislator tasked the youths to rewrite the bad narrative of leadership history in Africa, especially in Nigeria.
“The lackluster witnessing in all sectors in Africa particularly Nigeria was as a result of deficient capacity and insufficient preparation for the leadership position which mostly translated into poor performance and disappointment by the led. Little wonder most of our vibrant youths and best hands are leaving the shores of the country to seek greener pasture but the question is; for how long are we going to continue doing this?
“And this why, at this juncture, you all must take responsibility by developing a vision that guides and give direction in life. I must appreciate and commend the effort of The True-life Projects (TTLP) for coming through at this point in history of the Africa, but to be sincere with ourselves, we need more people to join in this crusade for excellent leadership drive in Nigeria and Africa as a whole,”, he opined.
Setting a record straight on the philosophy behind the induction and leadership workshop, the convener and founder of The True-Life Projects, Dr. Elijah Adodo said the training was borne out of the desire for new Nigeria and Africa through Human Capital Development in Excellent Leadership.
Adodo explained that the workshop was also organised to build the capacity of the present youth generation for various leadership positions by instilling moral character in them, good leadership skills and correct perception of life and purpose.
According to him, it is going to be six weeks mentorship training through intensive masterclass with highly resourceful Individuals and accomplished captains of industries.
“It is our hope that at end of the intensive training, the fellows would have been formed into the materials the society, Nigeria and Africa need because we strongly believe in better tomorrow of Nigeria and Africa,” he said.
