President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Umar Mohammed as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, made this known in a statement he signed on Saturday.

According to the statement, Mohammed is an architect, and also, a construction technology and environment professional.

It added, “The President expects improved outcomes in the agency’s objective of operating and maintaining hydrological stations nationwide, as well as carrying out groundwater exploration and monitoring using various scientific techniques in order to provide hydrological and hydrogeological data needed for planning, design, execution and management of water resources and allied projects.”

President Tinubu has also approved the appointment of Silas Agara as the new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment.

Agara is an entrepreneur and sports administrator who previously served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State.

He succeeds Nuhu Fikpo, who former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed in May 2021.

Ngelale also revealed this in a statement he issued on Saturday

He said the President anticipates an “overhaul of the NDE for optimal performance in designing and implementing programmes to combat mass unemployment.”

The NDE was established in November 1986 and began operations in January 1987.

It was meant to address the effects of the economic recession of the 1980s, which led to a profound drop in capacity utilisation and consequent outright closure of industries in Nigeria.

The President has also approved the appointment of Dr. Olufemi Adekanmbi as the new Project Coordinator for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project.

Adekanmbi is a former Commissioner for Special Duties, Culture and Tourism in Ondo State, and a member of the Nigerian Environmental Society.

He holds a Doctorate degree in Environmental Management.

Ngelale added that the President anticipates the exercise of competence, dedication, and professionalism in fulfilling the mission of the HYPREP to restore and revitalize communities impacted by hydrocarbon pollution, with a primary focus on Ogoniland in Nigeria.
