The residents of Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State have accused the council’s Chairman, Godwin Atose, of frustrating the reopening of the Sapele UltraModern Market earlier shut by the state government.

The people of the area have, however, appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on the council boss to re-open the market.

The Sapele main market traders, under the aegis of Sapele Ultra-Modern Market Traders Association, also appealed to the Sapele Local Government Council Authority to obey the order by the Delta State Government and re-open the market.

One of the traders, who spoke to our correspondent on behalf of the traders at the Sapele market, Mr. Ogogomeje Orighomisan, said that the Delta State Government had concluded plans for the re-opening of the market, but that the council, for reasons best known to it, had delayed the process after a memorandum of understanding had been reached by all the stakeholders.

Orighomisan, therefore, urged the council chairman to immediately carry out the order of the Delta State Government by re-opening the completed portion of the market to traders. He noted that the council should start allocating stalls to traders without further delay, adding that the traders were continually faced with untold hardship because of the closure of the market.
