Afemale judicial clerk (names withheld) working in the Delta State High Court, Warri, is in the police net for allegedly swindling a litigant identified as Omars Pessu of the sum of N200,000.

The judicial clerk was alleged to have collected the sum from the litigant on two occasions with the promise to help him to win his case before the court.

According to a reliable source, who did not want her name mentioned, the suspect had approached the litigant in February telling her that the judge wanted N300,000 from him to influence his case and that the money should be channeled through her.

She said Pessu paid N100,000 instantly and promised to pay the balance before the case would come up for hearing again in the court.

The burble, however, burst last Monday, when the litigant walked up to the judge with the belief that he had already established a good relationship with her.

“The Judge, Justice Theodora Uloho, was astonished by the bold move before Pessu let the cat out of the bag that she sent one of her staff to collect N300,000 from him to close his matter.

“The judge immediately summoned the staff and Pessu was able to identify Atumu as the culprit and the suspect admitted to committing the crime. “The N100,000 that Pessu gave the suspect on Monday before the sitting of the court was also found with her,” she said.

She said the offence was punishable under Section 93 of the Criminal Code Cap C21 of Delta State 2006.

Confirming the report to our correspondent, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Andrew Aniamaka said investigation of the matter was ongoing
