The Federal Government has commenced mental health and psycho-social support for the people of the North-East in order to treat the trauma resulting from the series of Boko Haram attacks in the region.

Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this while speaking on the success of the health and nutrition emergency response in Borno State.

He disclosed that under the scheme, health workers would reach out to the communities by embarking on house-to-house visits to identify and respond to community members requiring mental health and psycho-social support.

The minister stated that 120 volunteers were being trained to provide mental health and psycho-social support to the victims.

Ehanire added that in order to ensure a comprehensive response and stakeholders’ engagement, the military and paramilitary services in the state, whose roles were critical to the intervention, would also be carried along.
