Nigerian show promoters have been charged to always ensure they produce entertainment shows in their domains with at least 60 per cent local content. The President of the Entertainment Association of Edo State, Mr. Iselobor Airemen, aka Miyaki, who advocated this, bemoaned the little attention given to the entertainment industry in Edo State, and vowed to sue any show promoter who invites artistes from other parts of the country at the expense of local artistes.
Iselobor, who spoke at the unveiling and fund-raising ceremony of the association, where a 10-man committee was inaugurated, urged the Edo State Government and private individuals in the state to look at the entertainment industry as a way of creating job opportunities for the youth.
“I am going do my best to make sure we achieve our aims and objectives as a registered platform in the state. Most times, when people come from other places to perform here in Edo without notifying us, I always feel bad because we are not carried along. What I will try to do as the president is that if you are bringing 40 per cent from Lagos, you must be able to take 60 per cent of our content to make up your show. If you don’t do that, we will take you to court,” he declared.
As to the challenges facing the association, he said, “We need support, especially from government to enable us own our secretariat where we can have recording studios to improve artistes in the state.
