For the second year running organisers of the Okpekpe international 10km road race are delighted to announce that MYLAPS Sports Timing, the internationally recognised automatic sports timing company will provide the fifth edition of the race which holds on Saturday May 13,2017 in Okpekpe in Edo state with an easy to use, accurate and reliable timing system.
Spokesman for the race Dare Esan says organisers of the race are happy with the performance of the company at the fourth edition of the race last year and have decided to engage the Holland based company for this year’s race.
‘Last year we raised the bar in terms of organising road races/athletics events in Nigeria by joining such world acclaimed marathons as Boston, Rotterdam and Melbourne marathons who now rely on MYLAPS technology for the world class timing of their events,’said Esan who added that as an IAAF bronze label event, organisers of the Okpekpe road race were left with no choice but to organise the event in a truly world class fashion.
Esan also reveals that one of the conditions an IAAF label race must fulfil is to ensure an adequate timing system is put in place.
‘According to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF),races must provide fully electronic timing by use of active or passive transponders. Real time splits and final results should be made available to media, spectators and must be online. And to ensure this is done we have gone for a company whose founders invented some 34 years ago automatic sports timing.
‘We have also launched a tracking application to enable the media, athletes and their friends and families as well as spectators and even sponsors to follow the progress of the participants as well as the entire organisation of the event.
The App which is available on iPhone and Android App stores is powered by MYLAPS Experience Lab,a division of MYLAPS Sports Timing.
‘All Okpekpe road race runners will have a device on their numbered bib which tracks their location. As you move around the race area, you’ll be given notifications of things going on around you, weather updates and messages about who is leading the race.In fact split times and finishing positions will be updated as the race progresses and all the first aid points and drinks stations are included on the interactive map’.
”This is a demonstration of our determination to organise a race worthy of a label status. We are stopping at nothing to ensure we meet all the requirements for the organisation of the only IAAF bronze label race in Africa in 2017,’said Esan
