N11.5m in a nightclub! Even Davido is not that stupid

No wonder recession is not affecting Shina Peller. While people struggle hard to survive, he knows that some young men will come on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to give him free money. And he does not use force to get it from them, they give him with sheer excitement.

Though I did not witness it personally, news have it that a Malaysia-based Nigerian spent close to N12m in Peller’s Lagos club, Quilox, last Saturday. I also heard that it was not the first time the club recorded such a huge revenue on drinks in a night.

When I woke up on Sunday morning and saw the gist, I quickly did a mental calculation of how far the money could go in changing the fortunes of many people. As I write, many people would be thrown out of their houses by tomorrow morning because of a delay in rent payment. As I write, many people are not sure of where to get their next meals. As I write, people are dying because they cannot pay their medical bills.

But a young man simply identified as HushPuppi did spend such amount and he even went on to brag about it on social media.

He said, “I am speaking on behalf of my honourable self and classic baggie and self-paid, if dem born anybody well, or “UNA CREW” make una come out tonight, make we use am do Champions League final in this Lagos tonight! Bottles will be flying from beginning. Hennessey don enter body and tonight is the night to let you all know I didn’t go and count bridge in Malaysia for 4 years. If ur net worth is a hundred million and below, stay at home tonight or come as a fan or a looker.

“Note to Shina Peller: No credit sale tonight, no selling to anyone based on personality or past glory. Our own bank open today and our token dey on standby and network good, no story, no I dey come, no baba u no sabi me ni. It’s Championship night. There’s difference between omo baba olowo and baba olowo.”

After getting the briefing, the next thing I did was to go online to read about him. I did not see much apart from his extravagant lifestyle. Before g o – i n g to press, his source of income or background is still a mystery to the public. I have tried hard to get his real name too but no success.

Since the news reached the public, a friend told me that people have been sending him their account details, begging for money.

From the conversation on social media, some people alleged that he is into drugs, some said he sold his kidney and others said he does internet fraud. But no one has actually come out with proofs of what he does. Even if he makes money illegally, does that mean he must waste it on drinks? How about his family members?

For Davido, who is also an unrepentant lavish spender, to have advised him to go buy a house, instead of wasting money on drinks, it suggests that HushPuppi has a challenge.

Davido reacted when HushPuppi attacked him, saying, he was a rich man, not a rich man’s son. It led to a battle of words on social media, though they had settled their differences.

If Davido or Wizkid or any other musician had done this, people might not pay attention to it. Musicians are known for their fake and expensive lifestyles, a situation many of them have openly confessed they regretted.

Eniola Badmus also took to her Snapchat page to slam Hushpuppi. Not only did she reveal that he begged her for a follow back on Instagram, she also questioned his unknown source of income.

But Daddy Freeze, the radio personality, wants everyone to let HushPuppi be. According to him, it is his money and only he can decide how to spend it.

He said, “Why is everyone on HushPuppi’s case for the last three days for allegedly spending N11m on drinks? Are pastors not spending more on holes? At least, he drank the drink for him belle. If he had given the money to a church, they would have contributed it to buy a private jet he won’t use, build schools his kids won’t attend or create slush funds for holes he won’t… My brother enjoy your money, na you get am, me no dey form righteous.”

For Daddy Freeze and others who think he has not done anything wrong, they may be right. People just do not understand why such money would be spent on drinks alone and in a night, when you can actually invest it in business or use it for something worthwhile.

I suspect HushPuppi must have done what he did under the influence of alcohol. But I hope he does not live to regret his action.
