Hit-and-run driver crushes woman to death in Ibadan

A hit-and-run driver has crushed a woman, Mrs. Ojo Mojisola Idowu, to death while walking through Alakia Isebo community of Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.

To prevent future occurrence of accidents in the area, the community called for improved traffic measures.

The family members of Mrs. Idowu were thrown into mourning on April 23, 2024 after the yet to be identified hit and run vehicle driver killed her.

It was gathered that the sad incident occurred around 9:00pm when the vehicle whose unknown driver ran over Mrs. Idowu where she sustained severe head injury.

Mrs. Idowu, a resident of Alakia Isebo area of Oyo State was walking home from a nearby shop when the tragic accident occurred.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle, which was driving at a high speed, struck the woman and ran over her head with full force.

One of the witnesses who claimed anonymity said, ‘The incident happened due to over speeding of the driver. Passers-by made frantic efforts to rescue her and took her to the hospital but the woman succumbed to her injuries before receiving medical treatment.”

The Alakia community where the deceased lived was in shock and total dismay upon receiving Mrs. Idowu’s departure, with residents expressing outrage and grief over the brutal loss of life.

It was gathered that the Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the incident and appealed to the public for information to help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved.

The eldest son of the deceased, Mr. Stephen Ojo, said the painful exit of their mother was not a loss to the family alone but to the entire community at large.

Kehinde Joshua Ojo, a son of the deceased expressed his grief and the vacuum created by the sudden loss of their beloved mother while calling the security operatives in the state to apprehend and make the perpetrator face the consequence of his recklessness.

Mr. D. Clement, a younger brother to the deceased also appealed to the concerned authority to expedite actions to ensure the hit and run driver is brought to book.

The Alakia community further called for increased measures to improve road safety and prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

The family of Mrs. Idowu has been left to mourn the sudden loss of their loved one, and the community is rallying around them to offer support and condolences during their difficult time.

The deceased has since been laid to rest by the family.
