Operatives of Ondo State Amotekun Corps have arrested no fewer than 48 suspected kidnappers at their hideouts along Ore- Ondo-Akure roads.
The suspects were said to have terrorised travellers along the routes with ‘one chance’ operation as they abducted and robbed unsuspecting travellers who boarded their vehicles used for criminal purposes.
While addressing journalists on Wednesday, the Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye said that the syndicates used private cars on the highway to lure some innocent Nigerians into their cars, dispossessing them of their belongings.
He revealed that some female passengers were being sexually abused by the criminals who would alight their victims at unknown places and speed off.
According to Adeleye, five of the suspected criminals were arrested for car snatching in Owo, and stealing of transformer cables
In his address while parading the suspects, the corps commander said two new cars were recovered from the suspects which they stole from the Northern senatorial district of the state in the middle of the night.
One of the suspects, Temidayo Olagundoye, a 52-year-old man, during an interview with journalists, confessed that he was actually involved in the crime of “one chance”, adding that himself and his gang members dispossessed people of their belongings and sometimes raped the female victims.
The Amotekun boss therefore, urged the people of the state to be wary of the vehicle they board.
Adeleye, while giving further details of those that have been prosecuted so far in courts of law, disclosed that over 600 suspects have been convicted.
