Contrary to widely media report on Monday that former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, sources close to the former Nigerian leader, said that Obasanjo did not meet Mrs. Remi Tinubu at home.

According to a credible source familiar with the incident, Obasanjo only met Mrs. Remi Tinubu by coincidence at Eko Hotel in company of Mrs. Abba Folawiyo.

The source added that Obasanjo had an event at Eko Hotel on Sallah day, and the First Lady too had an event too that day.

The source explained that Mrs. Folawiyo, a longtime friend of Obasanjo, then told him (Obasanjo) that the First Lady was around.

“He then honoured the First Lady by seeing her at the venue in company of Mrs. Folawiyo. They both talked on the situation in the country and sent a message to president Bola Tinubu, through the First Lady, Mrs. Remi Tinubu,” the source explained.

It was erroneously reported that Obasanjo visited the First Lady in Lagos on Monday on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The media aide to the First Lady, Busola Kukoyi, shared the picture of Oluremi and Obasanjo in a post published on X.

“Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, after receiving the former President who came felicitating on the Sallah celebration on Monday 17th June,” Kokoyi wrote on X.

The development elicited varied reactions, as some Nigerians wondered if Obasanjo had switched to supporting Tinubu.

In the build-up to the 2023 election, Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the number one seat in the country.

Tinubu visited the former president during the campaign, but Obasanjo did not declare support for the ex-governor of Lagos’ presidential ambitions.
