Police, NSCDC beef up security in Osun ahead of Sallah celebration

In order to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said security has been beefed up in strategic locations across the state.

While the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, ordered effective and extensive deployment of policemen as well as all necessary logistics to strategic points along the highway, worship centres and all nooks and crannies of the state, Osun NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa disclosed that 2,350 personnel have been deployed for a robust security arrangement.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, the CP, in a directive issued to all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers as well as Tactical Commanders in the State Command, charged them to ensure that no stone is left unturned in making sure that adequate security is provided in their various areas of jurisdiction.

While stressing that maximum attention should be paid to critical public places and other points prone to public disturbance, the CP assured members of the public that security had already been beefed up to ensure a crime-free Eid-el-Kabir.

CP Mohammed further charged heads of formations to personally supervise their personnel deployed for this special assignment and warn them not to infringe on the rights of citizens but to protect them towards untold incidence.

The police boss declared that they are to ensure a 24/7-hourly surveillance of their respective area of operations.

Similarly, a statement issued by NSCDC image maker, Kehinde Adeleke, disclosed that Commandant Adaralewa addressed the management team and Tactical Commanders at the State headquarters in Osogbo, and noted that all hands must be on deck to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents of the state and visitors at large.

According to him, “Osun State is going to witness an influx of people, we have deployed massively to strategic locations and we have identified some black-spots, the deployment covers both overt and covert operations in the state. The team comprised of Special Armed squad, Female Armed Squad, Anti-Kidnapping, Anti-Cultism, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Explosive unit, Special Weapon and Tactical team, Counter Terrorism and Disaster Management.”

Adaralewa also made it known that the deployment covers public places, such as markets, praying grounds, recreational centres, motor parks, shopping malls among others. while stressing that protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure is very sacrosanct.
