The management of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt has officially announced the termination of appointment of Coach Stanley Eguma’s as the team’s Technical Manager after 16 years in the saddle.
Eguma has been a significant figure in Rivers United’s history, contributing to numerous successes and memorable moments during his tenure.
His sack which was announced on Saturday morning few hours before the commencement of Match Day 34 of the Premier League comes more than three weeks since Eguma has been excused from coaching duties in the run-up to the final matches of the season.
A statement by Charles Mayuku, Media Officer of Rivers United also confirmed the appointment of Evans Ogenyi as the Head Coach in an acting capacity until the end of the 2023/2024 NPFL season.
“The Management of Rivers United FC officially announces the termination of Coach Stanley Eguma’s appointment as Technical Manager of the Club.
“Subsequently, Coach Evans Ogenyi, the club’s Chief Coach, has been appointed in an acting capacity as the Head Coach of the Club until the end of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.
“The decision is in pursuit of a new direction aimed at achieving the objectives and goals of the club.
“However, we convey our gratitude to Coach Eguma for his services to the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavour,” reads the statement.
Eguma became coach of Dolphins in 2008 before (Dolphins and Sharks were merged) as Rivers United, where he continued as coach in 2016.
With this development, Rivers United will now begin the search for a new Technical Manager to lead the club.
