Two men arrested by some operatives of Oyo State Amotekun Corps in Ibadan, Oyo State capital have revealed how they carried out operations in areas that were being guided by local security guards.
The suspects, Toheeb Lamidi and Ajadi Oladoyinbo confessed upon arrest that they usually rob innocent citizens of the city at night.
According to them, whenever they are about to operate, they monitor the locations of night guards and trail them to where they always gather to sleep before sneaking into people’s rooms to steal their belongings.
For them, the sleeping period of the guards at night granted them the opportunity to rob people freely.
They said Amotekun operatives caught them while escaping one of their robbery scenes after the victim suddenly woke up and raised the alarm.
The corps recovered different types of phones and cash from the suspects.
One of them, Ajadi Oladoyinbo, who lives at Academy Area of Iwo Road, confessed that he joined his gang for operations but claimed that he is the one that is being detailed to watch night guards sleep whenever his colleagues are robbing.
“I used to go with them but this latest operation, I didn’t participate in it. The other robbery operations we went to, I only watched for them while they robbed and after, they gave me my share. I ensure that I alert them whenever any of the night guards wake up,” he said.
The other suspect, Toheeb Lamidi, a resident of Academy, in Testaco area, Ibadan confirmed that Oladoyinbo was not part of the last operation.
Lamidi said, “It is true that he (Oladoyinbo) didn’t go with us in this last operation but we used to go together in the previous ones. We have robbed residents of Igbo Oloyin area, Ojo, among others. We used to operate at night when people were asleep.
“Our last operation was at Lalupon area in Ibadan. We used to use long sticks and packers to pick people’s phones from windows. There is a way we use to fold the iron bars at the windows, tear the mosquito nets, and then sneak in our stick which had been tied up with a packer.
“Previous operations have been successful because night guards didn’t wake up throughout our operations.”
