A 35-year-old man, Abayomi Timothy Babalola has been apprehended by men of the Osun Amotekun Corps for allegedly abducting a married woman identified as Sofiyat at Ode-Omu, holding her hostage for three weeks amid random sexual intercourse.
Babalola, an indigene of Modakeke town in Osun was arrested on April 1, 2024.
The suspect was arrested by the operatives of Amotekun at Sekona of the state after he dropped the married woman in the area.
He allegedly used a magic ring to control the woman from her husband’s house in Ode-Omu to his residence in Modakeke where he kept her hostage for three weeks and sexually abused her.
Babalola’s arrest was confirmed by the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi.
He said the suspect had on March 29, 2024, taken the woman to Ile-Ife and dropped her along the road after satisfying his sexual desire.
The victim was said to have raised the alarm which alerted Amotekun operatives who swung into action immediately and trailed the suspect to his hideout in Sekona where he was arrested.
According to the agency boss, the suspect confessed that in September 2023, the victim, Sofiyat, approached him to help her sell her palm oil because that is the business he does, and along the line, he asked her out but she refused, saying she was married.
Babalola said he later approached one herbalist identified as Alfa Ilorin in Sekona who gave him some charms.
With the charms, he claimed the woman had been listening and following his commands.
He said he controlled her using the magic ring to leave her husband and she did.
He changed her SIM card and they moved to Modakeke from Ode-Omu.
All this happened within three weeks.
While revealing her ordeals, the victim said she approached the suspect to help her sell her palm oil, he asked her out but she refused and he called her to come and meet him in Modakeke.
She added that Babalola removed her SIM card and replaced it with a new one and he locked her in one house in the town.
“He will bring food there whenever he pleases and on 29 March, 2024, he came to the house to pick her and dropped her at Campus area in Ile-Ife where she raised an alarm which attracted the Amotekun operatives in the area and the suspect was trailed to his hideout in Sekona where he was arrested,” Adewinmbi said.
The Amotekun boss advised the residents of the state to be very careful about who they deal with and they should be security conscious of their environment.
He added that the suspect has been transferred to the Director, Department of State Service in the state for subsequent interrogation and prosecution.
In a similar development, a female staff of Ilesa University in Osun State, Ogunmokun Fanimo was on Wednesday killed after a truck fell over her while driving home.
The incident which occurred in Ilesa town along Osu road left many shop owners enveloped in sympathy as efforts by passers-by to rescue the woman proved abortive.
A source in the University said that the woman left school around 4pm and drove out of the school in her wine-coloured Toyota Camry registered with Lagos LSD 584 GD.
It was gathered that a truck loaded with cashew and was heading towards Osu lost control and fell over the car which was heading towards Ilesa metropolis from the school area.
As at 8pm on Wednesday, the truck was lifted off the car and the woman was found dead inside her vehicle after being trapped beneath it for almost four hours.
The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, Osun command, Kehinde Adeleke confirmed that the woman, a staff of library unit of Ilesa University was found dead after the truck was lifted off the car.
