Community, firm settle land dispute out of court

The dispute between Alanlat Nigeria Global Company and leaders of Community Development Association of Morekete Village Area of Igbogbo in Ikorodu Local Government Area Council of Lagos State over 20 acres of land has been resolved.

The company (claimant) had instituted a criminal action against the leaders of the CDA (defendants) in court on charges of conspiracy to commit offences contrary to Sections 410, 51, 56(b), 52, 166(d), 409, 171 and 123 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2010 before a Magistrate Court in Lagos State.

However, following mediation on the issue in dispute, parties agreed to a full and final settlement and the Magistrate referred the matter to Multi-door Court House after counsel A.O. Fadipe, who appeared for the Commissioner of Police and Messrs Ige Ayodeji and Abimbola Tope, who held brief for the defendants, told the court through the prosecutor that as instructed by the Magistrate, A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu, that counsel, claimants and the defendants were present at Multi-door Court House and that the case was settled.

He informed that both parties signed the Terms of Settlement and urged the Magistrate to consent to the wish of the hitherto aggrieved parties to withdraw the case.

The Magistrate, upon the application of the prosecutor and Terms of Settlement dated 5th September, 2016, duly signed by parties, their counsels and the mediator thereby entered as judgment of the Magistrate Court of Lagos State dated 19th day of September, 2016.

Consequently, the Magistrate struck out the charge and the defendants, Olawale Obayemi, Philip Balogun and Ajala Lateef were discharged.
