Aralola Olumuyiwa, popularly known as Ara, the drummer girl, said fashion means comfort and elegance to her.

Famous for her dexterity on the talking drum, an instrument otherwise regarded as an exclusive preserve of the malefolk in Yorubaland, Ms Olumuyiwa, in an interview with The Point, said fashion means looking beautiful inside out.

Feeling comfortable in certain clothing or fashion pieces also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, so fashion has a large influence on the society in most areas of the world

She said, “Fashion, for me, is dressing to suit every occasion or events. I love to be comfortable in whatever am putting on.

” The Ondo State-born drummer girl said she does not really have best colours when it comes to fashion.

“Although, the colour that suits me most, if I may say, is white, when I wear black, it means I am ready for work and I am in the mood for action.

White calms me,” she added. Asked how often she changes her wardrobe, she said as often as she feels the need to do so. She said, “I am not a materialistic person. Being fashionable is good.

This is because fashion and style differ, depending on several factors, including culture and tradition.

“Nearly every culture and religion have their own styles of dressing, which set them apart from others.

Fashion plays an important role in establishing identity, beliefs and thoughts throughout the world.”

Ms Olumuyiwa said that fashion also enables her to display her personality and personal preferences.

“It allows me to show off, not only the dressing style, but it provides an opportunity to set trends.

Feeling comfortable in certain clothing or fashion pieces also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, so fashion has a large influence on the society in most areas of the world, and trends are usually established through advertising.

For me, being fashionable is kind of following the latest trends,” the Ondo State-born drummer girl told The Point.
