Delta police order herdsmen to vacate community’s farmland

As the activities of herdsmen in the South-South assume a worrying dimension, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, has issued a six-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen grazing their cattle on farmlands in Aradhe community in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

The ultimatum by the police followed series of complaints made against the Fulani herdsmen by the people of the community. The community had complained to the police that the activities of the Fulani herdsmen in the community had caused untold hardship to the people as farming, their means of livelihood, had been disrupted by the herdsmen.

The Delta police commissioner gave the ultimatum at a meeting between him, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Non-Indigenes’ Matters, Mukhar Usman, Special Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who represented Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; Isoko North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, some selected leaders from Aradhe community and some Fulani herdsmen grazing on Aradhe farmlands.

Commending the police over the meeting, the Isoko North Council Chairman, Egbabor, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the people of Aradhe community over the matter and the prompt attention given to his people by the police in handling the matter.

Also, the President General of the community, Felix Omakobia, commended the police over the handling of the matter and however promised to obey the undertaking that was signed between them and the cattle herdsmen.
