The Anambra State Police Command said it has so far killed three members of a gang that attacked and killed two police officers at Uga Roundabout in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State last Thursday.

The state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, disclosed this on Monday.

Adeoye said the gang members were killed during a raid on their camp in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, on Sunday night after a manhunt was launched on them based on intelligence gathering.

The CP added that the hoodlums, after the Thursday attack, had also launched another attack in the area on Saturday, where security officers dislodged them and rescued a 51-year-old kidnapped victim in the process.

He said a Lexus Jeep and other items, including four Improvised Explosive Devices, two pump actions, and 16 live cartridges were recovered from the hoodlums.

He said, “The third body of the gang members has just been recovered by the police, bringing the total number of three insurgents that have so far been killed.

“The action was carried out on Sunday night based on intelligence gathering. We identified where the gang was coming from and their route and modus operandi and we launched a manhunt on them and we were trailing them until we got them at their camp at Ogboji in Orumba South Local Government Area, on Sunday.

“After the attack on Thursday, they launched another one on Saturday. They had thought that having killed two policemen in the area, they would have a field day and nobody would dare confront them, that was where we trailed them till we got them. It was in the process that we rescued the 51-year-old kidnap victim.

“The police officers that paid the supreme price were from Enugu State and they were on a special mission. The manhunt for the assailants and every criminal element in the state would continue.

“We urge the citizens and holidaymakers to go on with their lawful activities without fear. We will soon make public further development on the matter.”

He further restated the determination of the command to ensure the security in the state.
