The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Nathaniel Omo-Onyeke, has said that the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party might linger for a long time if its National Working Committee continued to ignore certain thorny issues.
Omo-Onyeke, who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Point in Warri, noted that the inability of the National Executive of the APC to take a decisive step to end the leadership crisis in the state accounted for the persistence of the crisis rocking the party in the state.
The caretaker committee chairman, who is a retired police officer and staunch member of the party, called on the national chairman of the APC to, as a matter of urgency, reconcile all aggrieved parties involved in the crisis.
He added that if the party wanted to control the state in the next general election, concerted efforts must be made by the APC National Executive to ensure that the party had a strong footing before 2019.
Commenting on the alleged romance between the party and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Omo-Onyeke said whatever had been going on between the Prophet Jones Ereu-led executive and the Delta State Government had nothing to do with the APC.
He stressed that the Erue-led APC executive had been sacked by a court long ago. “We are not aware of their fraternising with the PDP in the state. It was when they started accusing each other in the media that we got to know about the whole thing.
Whatever money they are collecting from the PDP is none of our business,” he said. The Delta State APC caretaker committee chairman noted that the Prophet Erueled executive contravened the constitution of the party, when it took it to court over a matter that had already been decided by a competent court, adding that Erue had been parading himself as the state chairman of the party illegally.

He said, “That executive led by Prophet Jones Erue has been sacked by a high court in Asaba, where Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh, who was also a candidate in the congress was not satisfied by what took place during the congress. So, he took the matter to court and the court gave judgement in his favour.
“The court has already sacked the executive led by Prophet Jones Erue and since that judgement, he has ceased to be the chairman of the party. Instead of going to the Court of Appeal, Erue went to another court in Warri to apply for a stay of execution.
In our constitution, if you take any member of the party or the party to court, you stand to be expelled automatically.” Omo-Oyeke also revealed that the state chapter of the APC was currently concerned about how it could give its national leader, late Senator Francis Okpozo, a befitting burial.
