Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom etched his name into Ajax Amsterdam’s history books after finding the net for the Eredivisie giants in a 2-2 draw against Almere City at the Yanmar Stadion at the weekend.

With Ajax trailing by a goal, manager John van ‘t Schip brought on the Nigerian striker as a replacement for Steven Bergwijn around the midway point of the second half.

Jochem Ritmeester van de Kamp finished off a counter attacking move to break the deadlock for the home team in the 67th minute.

But Ajax responded almost immediately as Akpom scored with his very first touch less than a minute after entering the fray.

And in doing so, the former Middlesbrough star became the first Ajax Amsterdam player in history to find the net as a substitute in three consecutive Eredivisie matches, according to the statisticians at OPTA.

Akpom opened his goal scoring account for Ajax against FC Volendam on November 2 and three days later, notched a brace to help the Amsterdam club register a 4-1 win over Heerenveen, and made it four goals in three league games with his strike on Sunday.

Almere City snatched a point from the game thanks to Thomas Robinet, who canceled out Benjamin Tahirović’s goal.

Ajax Amsterdam have accumulated 12 points from eleven matches to sit 12th in the standings heading into the last international break of 2023.
