The Lagos State Building Control Agency says it will move in swiftly to remove all distressed structures within the Agboye Compound in Ketu.

In the same development, LABSCA said occupants of the distressed building ignored several eviction notices issued before the partial collapse occurred.

This was made known in a statement on Sunday by the agency’s General Manager, Gbolahan Oki.

He said, “The agency had served quit notice before parts of the building caved in during the rains of Saturday; and also evacuated over 500 residents to save them from the imminent collapse.”

Oki said despite several notices served by the agency, some of the residents refused to vacate the buildings, which had been exhibiting different signs of distress.

“The structural integrity of about 8 buildings within the compound could not be guaranteed as several parts of the buildings had started giving way,” he added.

Oki said there was a need to pull down the entire structure to prevent more casualties.

“The buildings must be pulled down to prevent casualties and protect the built environment. More stringent measures await those ignoring notices and directives of the agency,” the statement read.
