Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has expressed sympathy with the victims of the fire outbreak, which occurred in the state on Sunday.
In a statement made available to The Point, Governor Fayose said, “I sympathise with those who lost their properties in yesterday’s fire outbreak.
I also condemn those who tried to capitalise on the sad situation to steal people’s properties. “I want to appeal to our people, rather than rushing to scenes of disaster to take pictures, they should assist the victims.”
Debunking rumours that he sacked some officers of the state fire service, the governor said that the fire fighters actually did well in containing the inferno.
He decried attempts by some people to assault the fire officers instead of helping them when they needed water to contain the fire. On the issue of fire-fighting equipment, the governor said that the state fire service had enough, adding, “What they need is a water tanker as backup and we will provide that.”
