Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Justice Nicolas Oweibo granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N20million and a surety in like sum.

The bail followed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm brought against him by the Department of State Services.

Emefiele had been in DSS custody for over one month.

His lawyer, Joseph Daudu, SAN, had, after his client pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge, applied for his bail, arguing that the offence for which Emefiele was charged was bailable.

Emefiele was brought to court in a white Hillux Pick-up van, with the plate number covered, at about 9.23am on Tuesday.

On arrival at the court, the former CBN governor was assisted into the court room by a female, whose identity could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
