Sven Vandenbroeck, the coach of Wydad Athletic Club, is confident that his team can beat the South Africans next week in Pretoria and advance to the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
Wydad were held to a 0-0 draw by Mamelodi Sundowns despite having a numerical advantage for the entirety of the second half.
After a 0-0 stalemate between the two teams at the weekend in Casablanca, Wydad will need at the very least a scoreless draw in Pretoria to advance to the championship game and maintain their chances of retaining their title.
“On the offensive side, we didn’t find enough space to create much danger.
“We came against a very well-organized team which plays with maturity and with very good technical qualities which allow them, even under pressure to get the ball out very easily,” the tactician, just recently appointed to the team stated.
He adds; “We have one week to work on several areas and we will try to be ready. We hope for a better result. The game is still open for both teams but I am confident with my team that we can still qualify.”
The tactician, who spent the 2021–22 season with AS FAR before returning to Morocco, thinks the upcoming week would give him time to implement more of his ideas and plan for the best tactical strategy to overcome a tenacious Sundowns team.
