Seven persons suspected to be armed robbers have been arrested by the Osun State Police Command and remanded in the custody of the police.
The suspects are Alaba Ajewole, aged 53, Oloko Christopha, 54; John Michael, 34; Adewale Ademola, 35; Mojeed Olanrewaju, 29; Adebayo Samson, 50 and Isiaka Ibrahim, 64.
According to the police, the suspects terrorised residents of Osogbo, capital of Osun and its environs with guns, charms and other dangerous weapons.
In order to ensure that it concludes investigation and go in search of other fleeing suspects, the police approached an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court with a motion exparte seeking the continuous remand of the seven suspects.
Addressing the court, the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Adewale Adeyeye, informed the court that the seven suspects were arrested on March 20 and 29, 2023 after some victims lodged complaints of alleged robberies.
Adeyeye said cases of conspiracy and armed robbery were reported by three persons, including John Afanogun, Babatunde Abiodun and Comfort Popoola of Adetoro Street, back of Capital Hotel, Osogbo, Osun State, adding that the police swung into action and arrested the culprits.
“Ajewole Alaba, Oloko Christopher and John Michael robbed the complainants, one John Afanogun and Babatunde Abiodun, of their vehicles at gun point and the above mentioned respondents (suspects) were arrested and two vehicles have been recovered from them.
“Adebayo Samson, Isiaka Ibrahim, Ademola Adewole and Mojeed Olanrewaju specialized in snatching motorcycles at gun point and they were terrorising Osogbo and its environs. They were arrested and four motorcycles and other dangerous weapons, such as cut to size locally made gun with cartridges and several charms were recovered from them,” the IPO said.
He added that he would be taking his investigation to Ogun and Kwara States to apprehend fleeing suspects and recover exhibits, saying that releasing the suspects without concluding investigation would hamper proper investigation.
Consequently, Magistrate A. Adeyeba granted the motion exparte and ordered that the suspects be remanded in the custody of the police for two weeks.
