Former governor of Cross River State, Clement Ebri, has told the state Governor-elect, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, that governance comes with enormous responsibilities.

Otu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state, defeated other candidates in the March 18, governorship polls.

Ebri’s admonition was contained in a congratulatory message he sent to the governor-elect.
The former governor said, “Well deserving as your victory is, it comes with enormous burden of responsibility. It is primarily a call to provide sterling leadership to the people of Cross River State, through humble service.

“Over the years you have proven yourself to be a dynamic, compassionate, courageous, God fearing and decent gentleman with an uncanny sense of purpose that is people centred. This you have demonstrated consistently in and out of the political arena. And it is these qualities and more that have galvanized the hearts and goodwill of the people of Cross River State to vote for you as their next governor.”

Ebri added that Otu must now see the whole state as his constituency and that he cannot afford to let the people down.
“The entire Cross River State has become your constituency and with that realization, l implore you to remain magnanimous in victory, even as you continue to open your arms in welcome embrace of unfeigned partnership and brotherhood to those from other political parties who ran for the same position against you.

“You have come at the auspicious time in the history of our state, rarely have our people been as unanimous in their voice as they were in electing you. Your election has challenged and changed the political narrative of Cross River State.

“Indeed Mr. Governor-elect you cannot let the people of Cross River State down, because you have the requisite leadership qualities, the team, the goodwill of the people of Cross River State and above all the grace of God to help you through.”
