The Police in Osun State have arraigned a 56-year-old man, Moruf Olayiwola, for allegedly duping a traditional ruler in the state, Oba Kehinde Teniola, the Alayetoro of Ayetoro Ijesa.
Olayiwola was said to have obtained one Toyota Lycon from the monarch and promised to pay him N600, 000 but failed to do so.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Rasaq Olayiwola informed a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo where Olayiwola was docked, that the accused person in a bid to cheat Oba Teniola, issued him a bounced cheque.
The offence was allegedly committed in November, 2017 and January, 2018 while the defendant was slammed with two count-charges.
The charge read, “That you Moruf Olayiwola in the month of November, year 2017 at Legacy Junction, Agunbelewo Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did cheat one Oba Teniola Kehinde when you collected one Toyota Lycon from him through his sales representative, one Olatunji Abiodun with a pretence to balance him with the sum of N600,000 and failed to do so and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
“That you Moruf Olayiwola in January 2018, same time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did issue a bounced cheque of Heritage Bank Plc of N200, 000 to one Oba Teniola Kehinde knowing fully your representation is false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 471 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations. There was no legal representation for him.
Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko adjourned the matter till February 27 for consideration of the defendant’s bail.
Olayiwola was ordered to be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
