Be agents of change, Buhari tasks ministers-designate

President Muhammadu Buhari has tasked ministers-designate to ensure that they are the agents of change to deliver on the expectations of Nigerians. In his remarks at the opening of a two-day retreat for members of the incoming cabinet held at the State House Conference Hall of the Presidential Villa, Buhari noted that the ministers- designate were privileged to have been chosen to serve as drivers of change.

The retreat with the theme, “Delivering Change: From Precepts to Practice,” was organised by the the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Buhari explained in his remarks before the retreat went into a closed-door session that the expectations of Nigerians from his administration were high.

The President said, “We must count ourselves privileged to have been chosen among millions of our compatriots at this historic time, to be the instruments that will deliver the change we have promised.

“The work of restoration and renewal is urgent and immense. The expectations of Nigerians are high. Our determination to succeed and change the fortunes of our country must be equal to the challenge.”

He added, “I have invited you to join me in this urgent mission for our country. I am convinced that in accepting this invitation, you are also equally determined to take part in this patriotic undertaking.

“This retreat, therefore, marks your first official contact with the machinery of Government, of which you will soon be an integral part. It is important that you are fully acquainted with the direction and priorities of this government so that we can all move together as a team.”
