The Western Security Network Agency, popularly known as Operation Amotekun, has arrested five suspected armed robbers in different locations across Osun State.

The suspects are Tayo Oguniran, 30; Adegboye Olumoyero, 32; Hamzat Sheu, 21; Awal Hassan, 34; Zaharadeen Bello, aged 25 and Usman Umaru, 25 years.

Parading the suspects on Sunday, Osun Amotekun Field Commander, Amitolu Shittu, disclosed that the culprits were apprehended while escaping with motorcycles they allegedly carted away.

He said the armed motorcycle thieves, all males, were arrested by operatives while they were riding the motorcycles to Ogbomosho and Ibadan in Oyo State to sell.

Shittu further revealed that the suspects were arrested during routine night patrol at Ife/Osun expressway and Ifon/Itesaadu/Ogbomoso road while trying to escape to Oyo State with stolen motorcycles.

He said the suspects confessed to the crime upon interrogation.

“They were arrested after stealing Bajaj and TVS motorcycles in Ifon-Osun and Ilesa and heading to Ogbomoso and Ibadan to sell them to their customers. They admitted to having committed the crime and explained that they have been in the business for a long time.

“They further confessed that it was their fifth time stealing motorcycles and transport similar to Ogbomoso and Ibadan,” he said.

He disclosed that the security outfit was carrying out a discreet investigation to arrest other gang members involved in the act and urged members of the public to support Amotekun Osun by revealing the identity of criminals around them.

While assuring that the suspects would be handed over to the police, who will then charge them to court, Shittu appealed to residents of the state to be security conscious always, especially during the yuletide.

He added that during the period of Christmas and New Year, many unthinkable things happen in the societies, which called for vigilance on the part of the populace.

Warning criminals and criminally minded individuals to desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law, Shittu noted that the state wouldn’t be habitable for criminals.

He assured residents of the state that the security outfit would ensure a crime-free yuletide and advised criminals to relocate from the state as the agency was ready to take the battle to their hideouts.
