Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, hosted the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

This is coming amidst worsening crisis at the national level of the Peoples Democratic Party where the governor belongs.

Wike had demanded for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorcha Ayu, following the emergence of former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, as the presidential candidate of the major opposition party.

Although what was discussed at the meeting held in Port-Harcourt was not disclosed, feelers said the meeting wouldn’t be unconnected with the 2023 presidential poll.

After the meeting, Wike took to his verified social media pages and posted: “It was nice hosting my brother Peter Obi once again.”

He was seen in pictures with Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and other politicians.

Meanwhile, some of the supporters of Wike and Obi have called on the governor to back the presidential bid of Obi.

One of his supporters, Ugwuojebe Ejike, commented on Wike’s post on Facebook, saying, “Wike, you are a great leader and we respect you and what you stand for. It will be a great joy that you support Nigerians and most especially the youths to fight for a new Nigeria that will be headed by Peter Obi. We can’t underestimate your capabilities and your capacity.”

Another Facebook user, Prince Onyebuchi Uwakwe wrote, “You’re (Wike) a great leader and posterity will never forget you in a hurry for your dogged fight against Injustice.

“We’re solidly behind you in that fight and seek for your coalition with this Obidient movement to get Nigeria functioning again.”

However, Ibrahim Bello, a Facebook user differed by saying, “Dear Wike. Don’t make another mistake by supporting Peter Obi . Yours faithfully.”
