A Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Adeosun Rasheed, to prison for three months for stealing two window burglar proofs.
The Police prosecutor in charge of the case, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, said that Rasheed committed the offence at about 9:10pm at Okinni, a neighboring community to Osogbo on August 23.
The charge against him read that “Adeosun Rasheed, on the 23rd of August, 2022 at about 9:10pm at Okinni area Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial district, did have in your possession two window burglar proofs suspected to be stolen of which you could not give satisfactory account of them and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”
The defendant pleaded guilty to the one-count-charge.
The Investigative Police Officer on the matter, Inspector Aderonke Adebiyi, gave a vivid explanation to court on how the defendant committed the offence.
Magistrate O. A. Daramola found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him to three months jail-term.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man, Nureni Musa, has been arraigned by the police at a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo over alleged threat to life of another person and unlawful trespass into other person’s property.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Rasaki Lamidi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2021 at Oke–Erinso area, Iragbiji, Osun State.
Lamidi said that the defendant forcefully trespassed into a landed property belonging to Faronbi’s family, being managed by one Johnson Faronbi.
He explained that the defendant damaged some cola nut trees and other economic trees whose value had yet to be determined.
“The defendant also threatened to take the life of Faronbi and his family for unjust reasons, after being granted police administrative bail,” Lamidi stated.
The offence allegedly contravened sections 451, 86 and 133 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11 Laws of Osun State, 2002, and Section 4, 2, sub-section 3 of the Osun Forceful Entry and Illegal Occupation of Land and Properties (Prohibition), 2019.
The defence counsel, B. Adewale, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Musa was taken to the Ilesa Correctional Centre for failing to meet the bail conditions and the case was adjourned till October 3 for mention.
