Acleric, Prophet Samuel Sunday Oyedokun, has instituted a suit against his estranged wife, Prophetess Victoria Oyedokun, after she allegedly fought him in public over an allegation that he sent away his two wives and brought a mistress into their Ejigbo home in Lagos State.

Following her actions, Oyedokun filed a divorce suit at the Ejigbo Customary Court, seeking the dissolution of their 34-year old marriage. Fifty two-year-old Victoria alleged that Oyedokun, 70, deceived her into marrying him without informing her that he had two other wives, which she discovered 20 years after.

When Victoria discovered the alleged betrayal, she protested and moved out of their matrimonial home, but Oyedokun did not bother to bring her back. The prophet rather brought in his mistress to live with him in their matrimonial home. When Victoria got wind of the new development, she reportedly went to the residence and church located at 5/7 Jimo Dada Street, where she engaged Oyedokun and members of church in a serious fight over the mistress.

She was said to have insisted that she was returning to her matrimonial home and the mistress must leave. But Oyedokun was said to have told her that she could not return because she had already moved out of their matrimonial home and had been replaced by his mistress now taking better care of him.

The prophet also told the court that despite the fact that Victoria had left, he had continued to cater for their four children. He said he took the matter to court because of the constant threats she had been making against him and other church members.

Testifying before the court, Oyedokun said that he married Victoria and two other women years back, but they all left him.He admitted that he was staying with a mistress now taking care of him, adding that the two other women he married were still alive but not living with him. The prophet admitted before the court that he was keeping a mistress, but stated that the woman had only been assisting him with domestic c h o r e s like cooking and washing.

He claimed that no sexual relationship existed between him and the mistress. Oyedokun told the court that Victoria left their matrimonial home two years ago and since then, they had been living separately, adding that he was surprised that she came to the church to fight with members, including his mistress. He said he had no plans for her and, therefore, prayed that the marriage be dissolved, since he was no longer in love with Victoria, because of her “bad character.”

The prophet also asked the court to give an order preventing her from coming to his house and church. The embattled Victoria told the court that when they got married, things were working well, until her husband brought in a strange woman with a baby, adding that she was not aware that he was married to other women before her. The President of the court, B.A. Akano, adjourned the matter till April 24 for continuation of trial.
